Greenacres Golf Centre supported by Greenacres Golf Club will be holding a Junior Fun Day which is open to ALL member's children/grandchildren and their friends.

The Race to Portugal

Saturday 4th September 2010

Monte da Quinta Resort (www.mqclub.com) is a new luxury resort located opposite the 18th fairway of Quinto de Lago, in Faro, Portugal, one of Europe’s finest courses. The resort is made up of The Suites (130 room Aparthotel) which was opened in 2008 and the Club which is a selection of exclusive villas and townhouses opened in 2005. Monte da Quinta Resort has a strategic partnership with the golf course with access to all of its three courses including the new Laranjal course.

In order to promote their property the Resort are running The Race to Portugal and I have the opportunity to offer participation in the competition to a small number of Clubs here in Ireland. The event will take place early in November 2010 and the Resort is offering a wonderful prize to each participating Club. The winner of each club qualifier will be provided with a weeks stay, on a Bed & Breakfast basis at the luxury The Suites with two days competitive golf at Quinta do Lago Golf Club against other clubs from Ireland and the U.K. This is a super prize to offer to your members and is approved by the Royal & Ancient for expenses.

The qualifier shall be a four ball better ball and the winning pair will represent their Club at the final.

I look forward to hearing from you in the not too distant future and I hope I will be welcoming your qualifiers to the Monte da Quinta Resort and Quinta do Lobo Golf Course in November.

Entrance fee into the Race to Portugal will be an additional £2 per pair for those members who wish to enter the competition.

The prize does not include flights

The winning pair will have to make their own travel arrangements.

Range Finders

Although the R&A have not banned the use of Range Finders and other such devices, it is up to  individual clubs to introduce a local rule permitting their use in a competition.

After discussing this matter the Council have decided NOT to introduce a local rule as thy feel these devices have the potential to further slow down play.

We will continue to monitor the situation and may review this decision in the future.

Greenacres members Anthony McCullough and Brendan Delargy are one match away from the regional final of the Volvo Matchplay Championship.
